Precision shims for distance alignment
Precision shims are used for bridging distances between components in turbines, transmission gears, pumps, etc. and for bridging horizontal distances between individual machines. These individual precision shims are precisely attuned to the machine components. These bridging plates are made either of solid metal sheet or of peelable laminated shim stock or laminated plastic. Solid precision shims are produced in the exact thickness needed to bridge the gap in question. For peelable elements made of metal or laminated plastic, handling is significantly more flexible. It is possible to peel them layer by layer until the thickness necessary for tolerance adjustment has been reached.
Precision shims of various materials in various designs
The minimum thickness of the individual sheets is 0.05 mm and generally range to 20 mm (thicker shims are available upon request). Laminated shim stock and layered laminated plastic is available at foil thicknesses of as low as 0.025 mm. The total thickness of parts made of laminate is variable and can be up to 20 mm. The standard materials for precision shims made of metal are stainless steel, steel, aluminium, and brass. Peelable laminated plastic parts are manufactured using polyimide or polyester. Laminated plastic laminate has the advantage of being very lightweight. It is also especially easy to peel, significantly reducing the risk of injury. Other special materials can be provided upon request as necessary.
