Aligning turbines

Turbine alignment is done to allow the turbine to operate as smoothly as possible. The individual components, such as the gearbox and generator, but also the half-shells, must be precisely matched to each other. Both horizontal and vertical gaps must be precisely adjusted. Precisely fitting adjustment shims are used for this purpose.

If turbines are found to require adjustment, shims or shim washers are often used for the shimming process. These are thin metal sheets or plastic films that can be used to bridge gaps or make parallel alignments in the plane. With our flexible alignment systems, components can be adjusted directly on the spot without having to remove parts, and perform costly machining (e.g. grinding).
