Setting the cutting clearance

When setting the cutting clearance (also shear gap), the lateral distance between two cutting edges moving past each other is optimally aligned. This makes it possible to achieve the highest possible efficiency with minimal wear – for example, in scrap shears or presses. In order to be able to adjust the cutting clearance, standard solutions are usually not sufficient, which is why individual shim sets – consisting of precision shims of the same geometry of different sheet thicknesses – are mainly used in this area of application.

The mostly rectangular shape and elongated holes allow you to easily replace the shims on the blades – without having to turn the screws completely out of the fixture. To remove individual sheets or to add more, it is sufficient to loosen screws.

Single sheets are available from a thickness of 0.05 mm up to several millimeters. For parts made of laminated metal sheet, the thickness of the individual sheet foils starts at 0.01 mm. Any combination of sheet thicknesses is possible for installation or replacement of the cutting blades. Production according to your customer-specific requirements is possible in materials such as steel, aluminum, brass, etc.
