Shims in jig and fixture construction

Shims are used in jig and fixture construction for filling gaps and to compensate for manufacturing tolerances. They are mainly used for adjusting the clamping points on tools or fixtures e.g. in the automotive or aerospace industry. A clamping point is used to fix one or more components.

The usually rectangular shape and one to three slotted holes allow you to replace the shims at the clamping points without having to turn the screws completely out of the fixture. Loosening the screws is sufficient here to remove sheets or to attach others.

Individual shims are available from a thickness of 0.05 mm up to a thickness of several millimeters and, depending on customer requirements, can also be offered individually as pre-sorted sets consisting of parts of the same surface geometry of different thicknesses. The metal disks can be used individually or in combination for finer gradations. As standard, the shims are made of stainless steel. On request, we also offer other materials such as steel, or brass, as well as laminated metal sheet. For shims made of laminated metal sheet, the possible thickness of the sheet foils starts at 0.01 mm.
